FOSS4G 2010 : Spatialytics will give a tutorial on the Spatial ETL GeoKettle

Spatialytics will be present at FOSS4G 2010 in Barcelona to represent Spatialytics.ORG Open Source Geo-BI projects.

Dr. Thierry Badard will give a tutorial on the Spatial ETL GeoKettle at FOSS4G.

The following points will be addressed during this 30 minute tutorial:

- Short introduction to fundamental concepts on ETL and data warehouses
- Installation of GeoKettle: software prerequisites and supported platforms
- Exploration of the graphical user interface
- Basic concepts: transformations, steps, jobs and entries
- The transformation repository
- Access to heterogeneous data sources: ESRI Shapefiles, spatial DBMS, …
- Writing geospatial data: PostGIS tables, Shapefiles, …
- Transformations: spatial selection and filtering, schema changes, SRS handling, coordinates transformations, integration of several data sources, geoprocessing, use of scripting capabilities, …

About GeoKettle :

GeoKettle is a Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform (integration, data cleansing, data structure, “updating”, …) and Load) tool powered by Kettle, a Pentaho Open Source project. GeoKettle is a true and consistent integration of the spatial component where all steps provided by Kettle are able to deal with geospatial data types.
